Language help & corrections

A word looks different. Is it wrong?

It may be a dialect, a regional choice, a different spelling tradition—or a mistake we need to fix. Here is how we decide.

Why bilingual words sometimes differ

Why is this word different from the word my family uses?

Languages vary by region, country, community, and family. Two words can both be correct while belonging to different dialects or everyday traditions.

Can one English word have several translations?

Yes. A translation can change with context, age, formality, gender, number, or the exact object in the picture. We choose a clear first-word label, but another accurate choice may exist.

Why does the spelling or script look unfamiliar?

Some languages have regional spelling conventions, multiple writing standards, or more than one common way to represent a word in the Latin alphabet.

Could the book actually be wrong?

Yes. We review translations carefully, but mistakes are possible. If something looks wrong, please report the exact word and where you saw it. We will check the source, context, and relevant language variety.

Will every reported word be changed?

Not automatically. We first check whether the difference is a dialect, accepted variant, translation choice, or error. Confirmed errors are recorded for correction; accepted variants may be clarified instead.
